Oranges in Ecuador are plentiful and local. The two most common oranges that can be found are naranjilla oranges and mandarin oranges. The naranjilla oranges are native to Ecuador and Columbia and rarely ever grown anywhere else in the world. There is a larger variety of oranges that are grown in Ecuador that has no seeds, but it is less sweet.
The month of May is when the mandarin oranges become ripe and are ready for picking. Orange juice made from freshly picked mandarin oranges is a real treat. June brings the peak for picking mandarin oranges straight from the tree and as a bonus treat from mother nature you can also time this with the coffee harvest and get your coffee beans from the farmer while you are at it.
