Purchasing a vehicle in Ecuador is easier than you might think. Do not be intimidated by this process. Buying a vehicle in Ecuador is not much different than anywhere else. Purchasing a vehicle in Ecuador can be done with cash, certified check, or credit.
You will get a better deal if you buy your vehicle with cash. There will be more room for negotiating a better price. This is not much different than you would do at a local dealer at home. You can buy this 2010 Chevrolet Spark for around $10,000 U.S.
New vehicles are slightly more expensive in Ecuador than they are in the United States. The reason for this is the import tax that Ecuadorian government slaps on new vehicles entering Ecuador. The new Spark’s are listed at $15,690 at a popular dealer in Quito. The same vehicle in the U.S. is around $2,000 cheaper. The huge shocker in Ecuador is the price of the used cars. A 10 to 15 year old vehicle can still run between $5,000-$10,000 U.S. dollars. The same vehicles in the United States or Canada would likely be anywhere from $1,000 to a few thousand for the same vehicle. So when you are purchasing a vehicle in Ecuador remember that buying new might be a better choice for you. The price difference is sometimes only a few thousand dollars more when comparing it to a 2 or 3 year old vehicle of the same model.
To get a good idea of what is available and what you can expect for list prices you can check this website. It is like the Craig’s list of vehicles for Ecuador.
